The Lighting Design

Established more than six decades ago, K. Wah Electrical Company Limited has grown to become Singapore’s leading distributor of electrical, control, lighting, safety and industrial solutions, as well as electric mobility technologies. The company’s head office in Kallang, the hub of the K. Wah Group of companies, has recently undergone extensive renovations to update and modernize its commercial facilities

The fourth floor of the Jia Hua Building once housed a now-defunct showroom, and the space had been left deserted for a long time. Our colleagues did their best to utilize the area, occasionally having lunch in some of its corners. However, a total renovation would ensure that the entire space could be utilized effectively and efficiently.

With the growing need for in-house training sessions for internal staff and an increasing number of external events being held on the premises, the demand for a larger seminar hall became apparent. This new seminar hall would not only host various activities but also provide flexible workspaces that could be adapted to different needs.

In addition, the renovated area would need to serve multiple functions, requiring a variety of light settings to accommodate the diverse needs of its occupants. This included creating suitable lighting for training sessions, seminars, casual gatherings, and individual workspaces. The goal was to create a versatile environment that could seamlessly transition between different uses, enhancing both productivity and comfort for everyone using the space.

Project Objectives

The new lighting system required intuitive controls, including scene-setting capabilities, a timer mode, and the flexibility to modify settings through mobile devices or manual switches. Most importantly, it needed to offer easy interoperability to ensure a seamless user experience.

“Our vision was to achieve ‘connected lighting,’ reflecting our role as a distributor of multiple brands. It was essential for the different brands integrated into the renovation to function seamlessly together. This meant that our lighting system had to be versatile and adaptable, allowing for a cohesive integration of products from various manufacturers.

Additionally, the system needed to be user-friendly, enabling our staff and visitors to easily adjust the lighting to suit different activities and events. Whether it was for a formal seminar, a casual gathering, or an individual workspace, the lighting had to be perfect. This required not just advanced technology, but also thoughtful design to ensure that every light setting enhanced the overall atmosphere and functionality of the space. Our goal was to create a harmonious environment where technology and design worked together to provide the best possible experience for all users.”
